A rare heirloom variety, brought to the US by immigrants from Germany, probably.
Red fruit usually weighing 400-800 grams but often exceeding one kilogram. Variable in shape, usually heart-shaped, heavily ribbed and often wider than it is tall. Depression at the stem attachment very wide, corky and deep.
Dense and fleshy beefy flesh, small lodges containing few seeds and gel. Excellent flavour.
Relatively compact plant with regular wispy foliage, indeterminate growth.
Good second season production (+/- 85 to 90 days).
